Miracle on the Tundra

2021-12-02T10:24:30-08:00

The phone rang late on New Year’s Eve, relaying the worst news. The Smiths* had not returned from their trip to Kotzebue. Edna and Jose, Arctic Mission workers, sprang into action. As members of the Selawik search and rescue team, they knew that they would be working against the clock. Temperatures would continue to drop [...]

Keeping Christ in Christmas

2021-11-30T08:00:00-08:00

Having kids has made it difficult to avoid falling into the consumer trappings of Christmas. And, if I am being honest, I can’t really pin the blame on having kids. I really do love the hours of shopping, the lists I can cross off, the wrapping with bows and the giving — I always have. [...]

Enjoyable Sabbaths with the Kids

2021-11-17T08:00:00-08:00

Some of my fondest childhood memories were Sabbaths spent with my Lummi Adventist Church family. Though we were few in number, we always had a fun, interactive Sabbath school and potluck every single week. I can still remember the chili and macaroni and cheese we ate every week! Then, almost every Sabbath, we all spent [...]
